fromIf May 22nd comes around and were all still here, everyone who said the world would end on May 21st owes us Ice Cream Sandwiches.
We are all a little weird and life’s a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love.
Dr. SeussO my God,
Since Thou art with me, and I must now, in obedience to Thy commands, apply my mind to these outward things, I beseech Thee to grant me the grace to continue in Thy presence; and to this end do Thou prosper me with Thy assistance, receive all my works, and possess all my affections.
-Brother Lawrence
I long to give freely
I attempt to give
Every ounce of love in me
To everyone that lives
Your love is like summer
You burn in my heart
Your love is like thunder
You light up the dark
My love is not steady
My love is weak
My heart is not ready
For the love that I seek
You tell me You love me
You whisper sweet love
You are my dear Lover
That all others fall short of
So give me Your heart
Fill it with compassion
Give me your hands
Move me into action
You’ve put love in my heart
To pour out on others
You’ve set me apart
My soul, You’ve recovered
Lord, it is You
And the love that you give
That I can cling to
For as long as I live
(Thank You, Jesus.)
Earthly love, I mean the stuff I was trying to get by sounding smart, is temporal and slight so that it has to be given again and again in order for us to feel any sense of security; but God’s love, God’s voice and presence, would instill our souls with such affirmation we would need nothing more and would cause us to love other people so much we would be willing to die for them. Perhaps this is what the apostles stumbled upon.
